Locomotive - submission

Submission deadline today, had a little trouble finishing up, it was brute force rendering last night to get something fairly nice looking out as the original render crashed :/

anyway, around half to 2/3rd's done i think, needs to be re-textured and a couple areas working on model wise, hope to also build a little more of a scene around it for the 50% grade submission. also was said that the camera pan needs to be sorted out but that was never anything final anyway.

next asset to come for submission will be trailers and oil tankers, another serious load of modeling but should be ok, just got to clear a little 'paper work' a couple of reports to write and pre-production stuff to get on with too so it'l be a busy couple weeks!

Locomotive - 80% modeled

Ok so this is where we are regarding the modeling process, reckon I'm around 80% done. there's still a world of detail that needs to go into this and a few tweaks need to be made I've just noticed :/ but it should be ok for draft submissions. I'm hoping once textured it should look ok but yeah a few things to do, probably go back to them over xmas as there's a few other things i need to get on with now

Locomotive - Wheel sets

Finally got the wheels finished, was a bit of a lengthy process trying to get them lined up but i'm pretty much there, I need to add more cables, wires and pipes i think on the inside but this is for a showreel draft and film r&d piece so I will be revising the model at a later date, full model renders to come..

Locomotive - Front &rear platform ends

Work on the Front and rear end of the platform with air breaks and couplings too..

Locomotive - Fans, Rail and platform.

Pretty much finished the body work now i think, the majority anyway. Finished the fans and started work on the base platform with the railings. still going pretty well and getting through it at  a fairly good rate, i think it'l get me when i get down to the wheels sets where the detail increases a little more though, all in good time :)

Locomotive Panel Detail

Started to go into a little more detail now, the the top half of the body done. added the side pannels handles hinges etc and air vent and grills. all going well so far, smother than i thought as its just pretty much been a case of duplicating object but i think it'l start getting crazy towards the lower half of the model, the wheel sets in particular.

Locomotive - early days..

So a couple days ago i started work another model, the locomotive which will be the main focus of the film. its all pretty basic looking so far but will hopefully take shape relativity quickly and I'll have something to show off in a week or so for the next showreel submission. pretty much just lining up cameras and getting some good reference so far, more soon..

Suzuki Samurai Hand in

Got to the point where I'm around half way through the project I think. This is the submission I handed in, got a couple render passes in there and wires.  In the next few days I'll be starting on the train model, the feature model for my VFX trailer which I hope will turn out nicer than this model but I think it will take a little while longer but we'l see how it goes :)
Enjoy..

Suzuki Samurai Assets

Anyway.. so to make this norm 4x4 look like more of a fire service vehicle I've been cracking on with some assets..

Suzuki Samurai Texturing

As mentioned in a previous post the texture works a little slap dash as I've not  properly started uv'ing yet but here's a couple renders of the basic colour's I'm going for :)

Suzuki Samurai Interior

Bit of a rough job but as far as I know I don't really plan on showing much of the interior, also started to slap on some textures and shaders but not got as far as full uv's yet

Suzuki Samurai Research

Bit of a lengthy one today, lots to catch up on, posts seem to be piling up but can never seem to find the time to finished them off, but hey, il post drafts regardless and finish the full posts at a later date.

So! been working on the theme of the model, it kind of has to tick two boxes, one being a showreel piece, and the other, somehow fitting into my film as research and dev. Been having a think, and after scouring the net for reference...

I think the best.. place? the model will fit will be as a fire rescue 4x4/truck. its going to be a kind of rural small town fire service vehicle, in a similar way this 4x4 is to a sheriff/police officer.

Looking to give the model a bit of back story, rather than it just being a model "oo wow, he can model a car, BIG WOOP" I want people to see and read into it, give it a bit of history, and get the view questioning and guessing  ..gives it a little wow factor I think :)

Suzuki Samurai Wheel set

Just a short one, been working on a wheel set, pretty Basic and will hopefully change in future as not quite happy, topo's a bit messy and would rather a much better repeated model for the tread but for now, a tyre's a tyer to be fair :)

Suzuki Samurai Body

Now working around the bones of the model Ive been starting to shape the body, and its actually  looking like a car rather than some weird poly mess :)

Suzuki Samurai Chassis

So I've actually finished and handed in this model now but I've been stock piling a few posts that I never got round to finishing. Just basically an overview from start to finish then I'll drop a mov of the final :)

Beginning with the basics then. the god dam chassis. Now this was a real pain in the ass, took me a little while to get it down and lining up with the image planes but once i did it was all cool :) Always best to start at the bottom I find and to build around the bones of the model rather than starting on the shiny/best/coolest looking assets, save that for later!

Pre-Vis

And for the trailer outline and pre-vis :)

Trailer Event

-The story begins with the train driver, the only survivor of a disastrous train wreck being interviewed by a detective.
-Asking what happened the detective becoming frustrated he suggests that there was no accident and that the train driver is responsible for the disaster
-Sitting silently the man's thoughts flash back to the moment of the incident
-At the controls lulled into a false sense of security despite earlier circumstances the driver reaches for the trains breaks as the lines descend
on the run into the city
-The breaks not working result in acceleration as the gravitational force of the 47 oil tankers behind propel the train forwards
-Viewing long shots of the train barrelling along at excessive speeds [fast cuts/good cinematography/power of suggestion]
-You hear the detectives voice one final time aggressively yelling "why did you do it?!" slamming his hand down on the desk threateningly.
-Blacking out there is a brief moment of silence, the camera  fades in viewing a disastrous wreck
-The closing shot cutting to the train drivers face opening one of his eyes as the only survivor

Story time

Just a little on my proposed story then   ..which isn't really much of a story at all :/ Its actually a trailer for a short film. So i'll just copy and paste my event outline proposal then post the actual pre-vis that sets the theme shortly after :)

The story so far..

Pressure [working title]

Premise

- The story of a rugged freight train driver manipulated to play a key role in a extortionists act of terror

- Transporting 47 tank cars of oil and instructed to divert from his original course the man heads towards a densely populated area, unknowingly risking the life's of thousands to ensure the safety of his kidnapped daughter

- The driver becoming lulled into a false sense of security the locomotives speed increases on the run into the city, reaching for the breaks unaware they we're disengaged he spirals into a state of confusion and panic

- Despite being torn between the safety of those in the city and that of his daughter his efforts
to prevent disaster are futile, with the train barreling down the line into the heart of the city crossing an explosive on the track
sparking a fatal blaze.

Synopsis

Time is running out for conductor John Bairstowe as his half mile long oil freight train accelerates out of control
descending into a densely populated city.
Unable to interfere Bairstowe is torn between saving the lives of thousands and that of his kidnapped daughter whilst his oil cargo advances
towards the city like a rolling explosive Bairstowe becomes overwhelmed with indecision.

Story outline

-The story begins with a man waking to the sound of his phone ringing, it's his daughter calling that he rarely hears from
-After years of not hearing from her since the breakdown of his and her mother's relationship the man is delighted however it becomes apparent that she wants something from him
-She talks about moving hundreds of miles from her mother's across state to live with her new internet boyfriend.
-Unhappy about the situation he compromises and agrees to it as long as she comes to stay with him for a few weeks before she leaves
-The daughter leaves without telling her mother and heads for the airport with the plans of being picked up by her father when he finishes his shift at a freight transport firm
-Whilst at work as a locomotive driver transporting oil he receives a mysterious call from an unknown number, he answers hearing the voice of an extortionist informing him of his
daughters kidnapping
-Unaware why his daughter has been targeted he is instructed to divert his train taking it through the city rather than his intended route journey around its outskirts. He is also
threatened being told not let on about what's happening or the girl gets it
-Little does he know he has been selected as a pawn in an extortionists terror attack, mislead into piloting a rolling fuel bomb
-Arriving at the junction where the line splits he sees a suspicious rail engineer standing by the switch, slowing the train the father looks down at the man. Checking for him in the
mirrors as he passes, losing sight of the strange engineer the father rises from his seat opening the door to look back.
-The engineer appears at the foot of the train looking up shouting "all clear" directing the train driver to start moving again along his new course
-The train slowly pulls as the nervous yet curious driver is suspicious of the strange rail engineer, unaware that he was tampering with the break lines
-Travelling along the new route his station manager radios in questioning him, putting it down to rail line works he manages to talk his way out of the situation
-As the rails descend into the outskirts of the city the train driver reaches for the brakes, with them not working he panics as the trains
speed rises becoming increasingly out of control
-Reaching speeds of up to 60 mph the train begins to snake due to excessive speed then suddenly a huge explosion erupts from beneath the train, striking a bomb along the rail lines
-A catastrophic accident happens
-The driver is the only survivor
-Six months later the driver is recovering and has for the first time been well enough to speak, a detective want to interview him
-Getting the interview the detective interrogate him ruthlessly nevertheless the man sitting silently
will continue to do so as the safety of his daughter has not yet been secured

*Blows Dust*

OK! so its been a while! The transition from work back to uni has been a drag but think I'm pretty much settled after this last month of cray cray times.

So, Back to the norm? Ive got a lot to catch up on the blogging side of things from film plans through to models and comps I've been working on so I'll do my best to update ya'll in the little free time I'll have over the next couple weeks as it looks like its going to be a busy couple months

Modeling to begin with then, as part of my film I've given my self the mammoth task of having to model a full sized locomotive with cargo, trailers and tank cars. Why? I'm not a modeler by profession but after working on a few things that are turning out relatively well I'm half confident that I'll get a good model done :D

Tadaa, so this is what I came up with after about a day and a bit, its a pretty basic but one of the most common wheel sets. Once UV'd and textured it shouldn't look too bad as its going to be a minor feature, Don't think there will be too much camera time on them so all should be fine.  ..wire too :)
