CUP.

One of the assets for a shot I'm working on for the short 'Infugo'. All modeled now and half textured I think, I need to sort a proper texture out for the lid and adjust some normal maps then I can start on the rig :)

Anatomy Final

Finished with the anatomy work now, all went fairly well I think. Seemed to
be getting better towards the end of the project but oh well, always what happens I guess. This weekend I've been trying to get a few little bits out of the way so I can spend the whole week/weekend flat out on my live project that has to be in for next Monday so there's posts on my essay topic I came up with and some 'infugo' updates to come :)

Python BMI calc

So as I mentioned earlier I've been working on python scripting for an exam I had today. All class work was practiced in maya and which was all good and well  but pythons a kind of multi-functional code that can be used over a range of software platforms. So I decided to read up on external scripting and how best to create and better what I learnt in class to create a BMI calculator with a custom GUI.

Results are as shown ^ it all went fairly well, I know that what I managed to cover and create was the slightest slight of python tasks and I think in future Il look a little more into the topic as I was to be competent in this area. Things good and bad about what I came up with? good is pretty much the fact it works to be honest. More bad points than good really, I would have liked to create a button to link the two windows rather than having to close the first to get to the next, for some reason I couldn't get the padding to work in the second window so it all looks very cosy if not a little squeezed. I also had trouble editing the window title on the second window for some reason. Mind boggling it is can considering it worked on the first window I'm a little stumped to why it didn't work :/ I think in future I'm going to look at more universal all round code that works on most gui's as I think that was my main problem. Trying to use elements from different gui's didn't particularly work. Oh well, all part of the learning process I guess!

COMPUTER ARTS COLLECTION!!!

WOOO!

cough* ok so now I've got that out of my system I I have to recommend my latest purchase, my subscription for the Computer Arts Collection series. I rounded up my birthday money and decided to go mad. Possible one of my most read/ favorite pieces of graphical print at the moment, some of the work inside is beyond inspirational. Adding to my some what growing collection of graphic art book's I was thinking the other day.. have I really moved on from college or just reverted back to what I know? wondering if the course I'm on now is a waste of time as I could have carried on with the.. some what simplicity of graphic design quite happily. Yet the other day I was walking back from class and though that what I'm doing now is far from fixed. The outcomes, different doors that are open to me due to the my abilities, for example I could finish my degree next year and get a job (hopefully) as a VFX artists doing composting, roto, matte painting or tracking.. the general field I think most of my peers will go onto work in OR i could possible work in the area's web development, graphic design, advertising, photography or illustration. The world.. or creative world, to some extent is my digital artists equivalent oyster.
(first 2 issue of 6 i think :)

Now to say this has all come up because of my recent subscription to Ca Collection would referred to as untrue, think its more because of in some hippy-esk way I've been finding my self/place in the creative sector( mumbo jumbo bla bla blah..) you can blame self promo for that :/ Without enforcing a particular title I think I can meet VFX and graphic art in the middle and settle for a description of a motion graphics artist yet more broadly known as a visual artist However as I mentioned earlier its not a fixed future, my ever changing interests could take a mad dive towards knitting patch work quilts, its unforeseen!

Less life story in future posts I hope! GET HOLD OF SOME COMPUTER ARTS MATERIAL (Connor's advice for the day)

(Ca book of inspiration 1-3, very good ready, amazing if your at some kind of mental block when illustrating.. or generally any project your working on)

So much yet so little

Well, the last week or 2 have been pretty.. under wraps for when it comes down to posting. I've been working on quite a few things recently..

- I'm around a third of the way through developing shots for a live project brief (which won't be getting posted because of footage rights)
- My self promotion work is also on the down low still as I don't want to reveal anything until its finalized, but I've got two good idea's that I think that are slightly more contemporary and  up to date with today's networking needs
- python scripting is something I have been working on quite a bit this week as I had a test coming up at the end of the week (seeing as its the end of the week today I think i'll fill you in on how I got on and what I created in the next post ;)

I think that's relatively all that I've been up to in the past week or so.. there's a few things I can think of but I'll post them separately!

Cv

Ok so its all pretty basic at the moment but all the info's there. I've got a few designs that I have sketched down but need to transfer to digital, so as soon as that's done I'll start jazzing it up a bit! new business card designs to some soon too! :)

Late

Just some R&D work from the other week I forgot to post for a live project, I know this doesn't look like much or make much sense now but this hoover looking sim is the making of a genius!

blocking shapes

Just an update to where I am with the sculpt.. still haven't become  Michelangelo over night but hey! It doesn't look quite as bad I though it might, a lot of smoothing to do but I've been mainly been working on blocking out the shapes. Still think I'm only a 3rd of the way through, maybe by some point tomorrow I'll make it to the half way point! more updates soon ;)

Similar

Much like last week here's a kind of mind map but this one's more to do with what I feel inspires and interests me in my area of practice.. all I have to say about this really, currently feeling pretty tired and lifeless at the moment as I've been sculpting and sketching away like a mad man all day :/ sculpt post to come :)

Anatomy Sculpt

One of the briefs this semester is on anatomy, we have to produce a full body sculpt and pencil sketches. I've been drawing for a day or two now and they're still fairly poor, I'll continue over the weekend and hope I manage to dig deep and magic some skills from somewhere. For now this is where I am with my sculpt, mainly just blocking out the shape, only a 3rd done maybe. more soon...

Designs

sorry for the strange squares over the design, uploaded from my phone, not quite sure why its like that. Anywhoo, these are what I  have come up with so far. With the designs I tried to keep it all fairly simple  but what I'm mainly trying to get across is my profession, kind of visual communication, I want my cards to say, this guy is a visual artist. The fields I want to work in are a motion graphic, illustration and VFXy jobs. Trying to incorporate the three of these incentives on one card is proving hard so I was thinking of maybe producing a series of cards, like a kind of collection. Non of this work is final.. but more of an exploration at the moment. Think I'll probably take the work into InDesign and see what comes of that! :)

Shape tests

Card shape testing is the topic of conversation for this post, I've been going on for a bit when it’s come to this project but it’s one of my favourites as I think branding yourself well is key to creating a good client base.

What I have been trying to do is create a business card that isn’t just a business card, I know it sounds pretty mad right? I want to create something that no one else in the market is doing, I hate seeing crappy cards that have had little or no thought put into them, they are the cards that will be instantly forgot, blending into the background with the large majority of other cards that fail to impress.

Basically I wanted a card that would stand out, one that can be something a client will want to show off and showcase, my thinking here was for the card to pop out and stand out above other cards.. quite literally. I did some research on pop out card designs. The results>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

However I dont really think the idea worked very well, I need to work on the engineering of the paper design to create something that is going to be a little more durable and stylish at the same time.

More experimenting to be done here. I have multiple card designs to come as well as a secrete idea I'm not quite ready to share until I have made it a reality. schneeky >_<

C&CS

So here's what I have for the c&cs association map task, for this exercise we have to produce essentially a brainstorm what we think is related to our pathway (3D, 2D, Games & VFX) however I went a little broader as my interests go a little further that visual FX.  there's still more info to go on, this just an update ;)

ExtendedProject PersonalFilm

Similar to last year's group work we have to again create a vfx short, either a film trailer or commercial and few things in-between. Choosing to either to work in a group or alone we have to come up with with around 4-5 vfx shots. After one of those mad brain storming sessions with Jeremy me and 4 others came up with a global warming themed short that would be a kind of informertial (information/commercial) we have been throwing around a few idea's with to do with story line and effects and have also managed to come up with a title, 'in fugo' latin for the chase. Don't think I'l reveal much more than that but take a look at the title and believe in endless possibilities ;)

Self promo

Was briefed on the self promo module last week, probably one of my favorite modules again as its something i can get a little graphicy about. The brief is broken down into the tasks of creating a logo, business card, web site, and a DVD cover if I remember rightly. So far I've already got the web site on the go, its all pretty functional at the moment but I'm sure I'l tweak it as that seems to be an ongoing task anyway. Working on business cards using my current logo, its all pretty simple at the moment and not really worth show but I will for the sake of.. business cards? :s I've mainly been spending my time on the shape of the card, I don't want it to just be a card, it needs to differ and stand out from all others and when i say differ, i mean differ. Most people give it the spiel about making they're designs stand out from the rest and all they real seem to do it change the colour or round the edges off. Not very individual if you ask me :/ At the moment my desk is cluttered with paper squares from shape tests but I'l get some designs printed the upload something when I have a more finished product. Until then frienddddddddddd.
